Data Adventures

FAQ

Common questions from teachers piloting Data Adventures.

Do I have to teach the Adventures in order?

No. Each Adventure stands on its own. Most teachers start with Avatar Maker because it introduces the Dataverse story that the other Adventures reference, but you can teach Festival Maker or Game Maker first if it fits your sequence.

Can I teach just one Adventure, not all three?

Yes. Each Adventure is a complete 5-lesson arc with its own learning goals. We do recommend Avatar Maker as a starting point because of the Dataverse framing.

What grade level is this for?

Data Adventures is designed for middle school (grades 6–8). Some elements can be adapted for upper elementary or early high school.

What do students need on their devices?

For Avatar Maker, students access the digital modules at dataadventures.org/avatar/day3 and /day4 (labeled Lessons 3 and 4 in the curriculum). For Festival Maker, they use the app at dataadventures.org/festival/app. Game Maker doesn’t require devices. All web modules work on Chromebook, iPad, and standard browsers.

Can students do this without devices?

Most of Avatar Maker (Lessons 1, 2, 5) and all of Game Maker are device-free. Festival Maker and the Avatar Maker digital modules (Lessons 3–4) require devices for the interactive portions.

How do I give feedback on the curriculum?

You’re part of a three-year pilot study, and your feedback shapes what we publish. We’ll be in touch with feedback forms and check-ins through the project team. If you have something urgent, email [email protected].

I’m stuck — what do I do?

For curriculum questions, email [email protected]. For technical issues with the apps, contact the project team directly.
